Tom

Hi there,

I'm trying to decide on whether to get a Nikon D300 or the Canon 50D and I really appreciate blogs like this that are written by real people, so thanks for that!

Most of my shooting will probably be sports related, ie soccer and hockey, but I would also like shoot some general subjects like low light live band photography and maybe a landscape or two. I don't have an existing DSLR now (just a couple of ancient Pentax 35mm SLRs) so I'm basically starting from scratch.

In your (or any of your readers opinions), what would be the best option for me? I've read that the AF of the Canon for fast moving objects is quite inferior to that of the Nikon, and that the Nikon lenses are also better than the Canon equivalents. However, it's kind of like PC vs Mac, it's hard to get a straight, unbiased answer.

The Nikon looks fairly nice, however I'm not too fond of the fact that the FPS slows down to 2.5 in RAW mode. I really like the 6.3 FPS of the 50D in RAW, even if it is only for 16 shots. Is being forced to shoot in JPG for sports a dealbreaker to you?

Thanks so much!!

Thom
