Thanks for this informative post.

So there's no difference at all between FF and 1.6x crop regarding this test if the 5D is just stopped down to f4 or f5.6?

WillShootPhotos

No, there is still a difference. There will always be more bokeh for the FF then a bit less for the 1.3x then a bit more less for the 1.6x crop factor cameras. The difference may not be as noticible as your f-stop increases, but it will still be there. I no longer have a 1.6x crop camera, but I'll get my hands on one and will do another set of photos. Thanks for the question - sorry for the delayed response. - Will

Steve

Thanks for doing the test! You have just made me switched to a FF body.

You Rock !!

I finally understand why FF gives a narrower depth of focus. You can shoot the same scene at a longer focal length from the same position.

So indoors shooting a party I could use MY 70-200 Zoom at 200mm at f2.8 on a 5D , whereas the 20D I currently use would need more like 135mm to make the same shot from the same place.

Or ... I can use Canon's 50mm prime wide open instead of my 35mm f2 from the same position

= loads more background loss

That's mad , and I can see even more clearly why I was so confused before - it's hard in your mind to imagine looking at 2 identical FOV's from the same place but in effect being closer to the subject with the longer focal length but with identical framing ....

you just sold me a 5D

If this is a hoax ..... : )

Andre

I'm sorry but the "very noticeable difference between the three photos" does not exist.
